Congressman Bill Keating was endorsed by the New Bedford Firefighters Local 841 and the New Bedford Police Union at a joint rally this afternoon at the city’s Black Whale Restaurant.
The New Bedford Firefighters Local 841 is endorsing Congressman Keating for the second time.
Said Local 841 President Bill Cabral:
“Public Safety is not something Bill Keating has learned, it is something he has lived. Bill has served the Ninth District and the City of New Bedford well in his tenure in Congress, advocating for staffing grants for the Fire Department, which saved approximately 70 jobs, and JAG grants for the Police Department. The Firefighters and our Brother and Sister Police Officers wake up each and every day to serve the citizens of this city as well as the Commonwealth and Bill Keating is no different. Congressman Keating is doing a fine job representing our Commonwealth on Capitol Hill and we are going to do whatever we can to make sure that he remains the Congressman from the Ninth District.”
The New Bedford Police Union has previously not endorsed a candidate in Congressional races in a number of years because of differing opinions of who to support, which makes the unanimous endorsement of Congressman Keating all the more notable.
Said New Bedford Police Union President Hank Turgeon:
"When the New Bedford Police Union looked at Bill Keating's family and work history, it became immediately obvious that he is extremely dedicated to public safety. For that reason, we are proud to stand strong with our brothers and sisters in the Fire Union in supporting Congressman Keating's bid for re-election to the United States Congress."
“I am so honored to receive the unified support of New Bedford’s brave first responders,” said Congressman Keating. “My father and brother were police officers and I have long worked with our firefighters. I have the utmost respect for the work they do and their selfless dedication to our cities and citizens. To have their support is humbling. Partnering together with our firefighters and police officers, I have been able to secure critical grants for New Bedford. I promise to keep delivering results for the city and these fine men and women when I am re-elected.”
