The full faith and credit of the United States. The ability of our government to function properly. The ability of our government to pay its debts.
These are not things elected Representatives should take lightly. But that is exactly what Republicans in Congress are doing by attempting to use them as leverage to eliminate a law that has already been passed by both Houses of Congress, signed by the President, and upheld by the Supreme Court.
Now Republicans are taking us to the brink yet again by threatening a government shutdown if they don't get their way.
These are the same Representatives who voted last Friday to eliminate food assistance programs for millions of Americans - half of which are children. And these Members call themselves patriots.
This infuriates me.
The main responsibility of a government is to care and provide for its people. How can we effectively do that when there is a faction in Congress that doesn't even believe in government and its role in a democratic society?
It is well past time to stop focusing on party labels and political vendettas, and instead put the interests of our families first.
